Galentine's Wine Tasting & Cookie Decorating

There were so many fun events this weekend at the shop, I was having a hard time trying to decide what to share! Since today has been dubbed as Galentine's Day, I figured it would be appropriate to share the details from our Galentine's Wine Tasting last night! I worked with Whitney from Jacob's Liquor here in Wichita and it was so much fun. We started planning a while back and the event quickly sold out. We wanted it to be a fun night out for ladies to spend with their friends, while meeting some new ones!

For the setup, we cut one of my favorite Rifle Paper Co. wrapping sheets into fourths to use as placemats. With the blush pink and red pops, I thought it would make for a gorgeous valentine look (plus I loved having a rose print since one of the wines was Rosé). We then drew circles where the wine glasses would go and I labeled with the wine type. Whitney sent over the wine notes and I printed them on pink slips of paper to set at each place setting. She was also nice enough to supply Riedel wine and champagne glasses, which truly add to the tasting experience. It all came together for a simple and pretty  look!

Food is an important component to a wine tasting because you want it to compliment the wines being served. Whitney sent me some recommendations and I went to the fancy cheese section at Dillon's (our local grocery store) to pick them up. My mom and I added in the Smoked Gouda because cheese shaped as hearts was too cute to pass up! We paired the cheeses with our Valentine favorite, heart shaped Lavosh crackers, and then some good butter and sesame crackers. For some pops of color, we added grapes and strawberries, which worked well with the Prosecco that was being served first. We also added some almonds for a nut option. I served the food on my Annie Glass pieces, a party favorite of mine when you want a simple, but fancy look. As for the paper partyware, I decided it would be fun to use rose gold plates with complimenting the napkins. These napkins are my favorite because who doesn't want to be told they look pretty today? Perfect for a Galentine's event!

For the wines, Whitney chose a bubbly, rosé and red. The rosé and red wines were perfect for Valentine's! The rosé had a rose shaped bottom and the red wine, a big red heart on the front bottle. Every wine was delicious and you can purchase them at Jacob's Liquor Exchange here in Wichita. Perfect if you are needing a last minute Galentine or Valentine gift! Whitney talked through each of the wines and answered the guests' questions. She did such a wonderful job and made the tasting so much fun! Once everyone had tried their wines, we were on to the next activity: cookie decorating. I worked with Sweet Sugarlicious again (fav of mine!) to make naked cookies for the guests to decorate. She also provided icing bags for them to use, which definitely made it easy for everyone. It was fun seeing all of the creative decorating. Since it was dark out at this point, my pictures didn't turn out, but I did snag one of our favorite local calligrapher and card maker's cookie (talking about you Rachel, from Lindeman Carte!):

It was such a fun night! Thank you to everyone that attended, I hope you had the best time. Thank you Whitney for doing a fabulous tasting and picking great wines for everyone to try! Also, special shout out to my mother for helping serve the wine throughout the night and for help setting up. Whitney and I are working on some future events, so definitely follow along on social media or e-mails to hear when we announce them! This one sold out fairly quick.

Happy Galentine's Day!

Galentine's Party

Every year I get together a few friends for a little Valentine Making Party and the past few years, it has been to celebrate my growing company. I use it as a fun time to catch up with some of my close friends, drink wine and make some fun love notes for their families. This year I planned it a little last minute, so I resorted to using my favorite online invitation service: Paperless Post. I loved the zebra look on one of their valentine cards. Plus, I knew I had some fun zebra balloons I could use for decor!

I always try to stock up on fun stickers, paper and tape for my guests to use. This year I had the advantage of working with some fun craft companies and I was able to get in pretty felt colors, shiny papers and more. It's always fun to see my friends get into it and make some homemade valentines. I will fully admit, I never end up making any, which is terrible. I get to busy chatting, serving drinks and making sure everyone else is having a good time!

I took some inspiration from one of my favorite party books, Darcy Miller's Celebrate Everything (highly recommend), and put together a mini champagne bar. I had fun champagne bubbles, sugar cubes, raspberries and pink marshmallows (which to be honest were more for a pop of pink!). It was a fun way to spice up the bar situation. She also recommended shaped sugar cubes and edible flowers - both would make a gorgeous spread.

Food wise, I called upon my cookie baker, Sweet Sugarlicious, and she made some gorgeous cookies that guests were able to enjoy at the party or take home - love how she bags them for easy take home (aka less for me to eat later, except I still had more than I'd like to admit). For the appetizers, I did cheese and crackers, strawberries (pop of red!), popcorn and M&Ms (my favorite), mozzarella & tomato skewers (wanted to use the heart picks) and Chick-fil-a nuggets. I wanted people to have enough snacks, so they could enjoy a couple glasses of wine! I brought in my favorite Annie Glass pieces from The Plaid Giraffe to set a pretty food table. I also shared some of the new Sugarfina Sugar Kisses I just got in, and they were amazing! I wasn't sure if people would eat many, since they are gummies, but they were all gone by the end of the night. We sell the small cubes, which would make a great little Valentine gift!

Flower wise, I went and purchased pretty pinks and reds that would work for all my Valentine events this past weekend. Garden roses are a favorite after they were used in our wedding, and I have always loved the delicate nature of ranunculus flowers. I mixed them both with hypericum berries for a pop of red. I also used hot pink carnation bunches in little pink pots for affordable centerpieces on the tables. They worked perfectly on the tables and are still going strong! Love having fresh flowers around the shop and my house.

Overall it was such a fun night and thank you to my friends that were able to pop in! Always fun having a girls night to get out and catch up! Hope you are not sick of pink and red yet - there are still a few Valentine events coming up that I'm going to share! Stop in and grab some fun party supplies, so you and your girlfriends can have your own little Galentine's party!

Lots of Love,

Wildflower Baby Girl Shower

My BFF is having a baby! Last weekend we celebrated my childhood best friend, Megan, who is a gorgeous mama-to-be. With one of her other childhood best friends, Emily, we hosted a flower filled baby shower. To set the scene for the shower, we picked out an adorable Rifle Paper Co. invitation from Paperless Post and sent it out to her family and friends. My favorite part was the lined envelope! I mean, who doesn't love a Rifle Paper Co. lined envelope?

From there, Emily and I got to work planning out the food, decor and favors. Food is an important part of a shower and to keep things easy to transport, we decided on quiches. Emily is the right co-hostess to put in charge of food because she made some delicious quiches! We also served fruit and cheese and crackers. For favors, Emily went to my favorite local spot for popcorn, The Popcorner, and got some yummy bags of popcorn. Fun, affordable baby shower favor if you put a little tag that says "ready to pop!" Then for the sweets, I decided to try a new cookie maker I met at the shop a few weeks ago: Sweet Sugarlicious by Wendy. I sent her an idea and the invitation for inspiration. I was blown away with the outcome! Meeting talented locals has been one my favorite things about having the shop.

Love how the cookies look on my favorite Annie Glass platters from The Plaid Giraffe.
Since it was a flower themed shower, I knew the flowers needed to be bright and pretty. I liked the idea of one big table where people could enjoy a family style brunch with the mom-to-be and when I remembered my mom had a long wooden candle holder, I knew it'd be perfect for flowers. We had Tonya at The Plaid Giraffe (my flower go to!) put small arrangements in gold votive holders. To save a little money, we put tealights in some of the holes. I loved the final result. It went really well with the Liberty of London floral and mint plates we chose from the shop.

To keep our guests entertained, we played a little game that we did at my cousin's baby shower a couple years ago: Price is Right! It's a fun way to give the mom-to-be some great necessities and give the guests a non-cheesy form of entertainment. I put Em in charge of picking out the items since she's a mom herself and we set them in a box to show our guests. We gave each person a "Price is Right" sheet, so they could try guessing how much each baby essential cost. They then tallied up their items and the person with the closest total won a Starbucks gift card. Worked out perfectly, because a friend whose having her second baby any day now won! She's going to be needing that free coffee.

Entertained the guests and Megan got a head start on some baby necessities! Overall it was a great shower and everyone seemed to have a good time showering her with some love and presents. Her nieces had a really good time and enjoyed having their own little table setup. They were even helpful when it came to opening presents!

Cake made by Emily with the traveling elephant that they have each received at their showers.
Thank you to everyone that came out and helped us celebrate our wonderful friend! I could tell she enjoyed being around everyone that loves her and already loves her baby girl! Megan, we seriously could not be more excited for you and Leo and your growing family! I hope you felt loved and enjoyed being spoiled on a Sunday morning.
