Rebel Girls Book Reading Event - Amelia Earhart

We kicked off the weekend for some adorable littles with daydream inspiration and motivation! Working with one of my favorite books, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, we put together an Amelia Earhart book reading and paper airplane contest event. Rachel, our event coordinator, invited her friend Chelsea, who is a pilot in the Air Force - perfect reader for our event! Amelia Earhart is from Kansas, so a great rebel girl for our event.

We wanted to help our little readers' daydreams soar, so Rachel brought the sky to life on our backdrop. She made white balloon clusters for clouds, and we found the perfect red airplane balloon. With the Rebel Girls poster, we attached strings to the airplane to make it look like the airplane was pulling the poster. Fishing line is great for airplane balloons, to make them look like they are soaring through the air. For the kids, we made a fun photo prop for them to stand behind, letting everyone know they are a Daydream Believer!

After we posted about the event, Emilee, creator of Smarty Girl, reached out about her fun airplane leggings. She is local to Wichita and makes adorable leggings with "boyish designs for girly girls." If you have a daughter that loves girly colors and themes such as airplanes, science, insects and more, definitely check them out!

Chelsea was amazing with the children! While the kids enjoyed some Miri's Minis donuts, she read them the Amelia Earhart story, shared her personal story, and finished off with a little speech about having courage. After speaking, she passed around her patches and scarves from over the years - kids always love a good show and tell! Even the parents found themselves asking questions and wanting to know more.

After the reading, the children made paper airplanes. There were many different, colorful airplanes soaring around the space. We then rounded everyone up for a distance contest. Each child threw their airplane and the two that flew the furthest won. Rebel Girls sent some fun goodies, and we threw in a few of our own. It was such a fun and easy activity for kids of all ages.

It was such a fun morning! Chelsea was amazing - we loved having a true rebel girl do the reading for this event. Even Shop Baby came to participate! Obviously she wants a copy of her own. If you haven't purchased the two Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls books yet for your littles (girls & boys), they're a must for bedtime stories. They are one page stories with beautiful artwork of famous women that did incredible things. You can purchase them in our online shop or in the shop.

A huge thank you to Chelsea, the Rebel Girls team, and my team for helping put together this event! Also, thank you so much to everyone that joined us. We are hoping to do another one in the future, so watch for it!

Mermaid Mingle

This past weekend, our shop went under the sea and we partied with some mermaids! ICT Mermaids (a new branch of Princess Pros Entertainment) reached out about doing an event together, and we of course said "Yes!" We started brainstorming up fun decor and crafts, and pulled it all together for a colorful bash that Alison Moore Photography did an amazing job capturing.

We wanted to use some of our new mermaid party supplies for this event. The colors are so bright and fun, perfect way to brighten up a morning. We mixed our new mermaid print plates with shell napkins and vice versa - you know how we love to mix and match. Confetti, beads, and chocolate coins were a fun and easy way to decorate the middle of the tables. Plus we went ahead and put out their craft supplies. Rachel was in charge of setting the tables, and did a great job making them whimsical and cheery.

To go with the theme, we had the party guests decorate their own treasure chest and a make a necklace to go inside. I ordered wooden treasure chests bulk from Michaels online, and picked up some sticker gems for easy decorating. For the jewelry making, I found lots of different beads and we set them out on extra sea shell plates. The kids were then able to snag some chocolate coins and their beads to hide inside their chests. We ended up having only girls sign up for the party, but you could definitely do the chests with coins, pirate patches, and other fun treasures if you have boys attend.

We ordered cupcakes from local favorite, September Moon Cupcakery, and she did not disappoint! She said she kept decorating and adding on, the mix is so fun for a mermaid event! Plus the gold tails really stood out, and the colors she chose went well with our party supplies. Other than cupcakes, we served packs of gold fish and Pirate's Booty to match our theme.

The best part of the event was the meet and greet with the Mermaids! We wanted to create an under the sea experience and knew the backdrop was important for pictures, especially since the mermaids are unable to walk around. Rachel worked with Qualatex and came up with a fun bubbles vision. She worked with their linking balloons to create ombre teal bubbles. On the floor, she added long, skinny balloons for the coral. The ICT Mermaids brought their inflatable clam, and it all worked so well together. The party attendees were able to take pictures, mingle, and had storytime with the mermaids. Highly recommend for your next party if your little one is in love with a certain character!

Each little mermaid went home with a sparkly snap clip from shop favorite, Avery & Grey. The packaging was adorable, and she even added confetti that coordinated with ours! Let us know if you would ever like to order as a party favor for your next event.

Thank you so much to ICT Mermaids  for joining us for this fun event, Alison Moore Photography for doing a beautiful job capturing it, Qualatex for helping us with balloons, and everyone that came to the event! Plus, special shout out to the LOC team for helping to pull it all together.

Make sure to check out our tickets page or Facebook events page to see what we have coming up! Sad you missed this one? We have a Final Friday coming up in May with Moana and the ICT Mermaids. We are also working with Ballet Wichita on a Little Mermaid party for the first weekend of June! Plus, this weekend we have our Rebel Girls paper airplane event, and there are a couple spots left for our Let's Knock Cancer Outta This World Event - sign up today!

Grandma's 90th Birthday - Mother's Day Idea

I stumbled upon the pictures from my grandmother's 90th birthday in December, and realized I never shared them. Mother's Day is coming up, and I thought this little table setup could inspire you to throw a beautiful brunch or dinner for a mother figure in your life (or send this to your significant other, so they can throw one for YOU!).

My grandma is an incredible woman and was beyond deserving of a wonderful 90th birthday celebration. When my cousin came to visit from Minnesota, we decided to have a little girls' dinner. We wanted to make it special, and add personal touches. We chose a local restaurant, Newport Grill, to host the occasion. They were great and let me come early to setup. Highly recommend for a special occasion dinner.

On the table, I wanted to use an idea I found on Pinterest a long time ago. For each place setting, I added a small floral arrangement with a photo of the guest with the birthday girl. I snuck down to my grandma's basement while she was distracted with the baby to find old pictures. That woman did not like to be in photographs! Hopefully your guest of honor let people take her picture with people she loves. Luckily, she did have old photos as a young girl in her 20s, so I got a fab picture for her spot!  The flowers were done by The Plaid Giraffe. They did such a wonderful job! I used floral card sticks to add the pictures to them. It was fun for the table to have pictures to look at. Definitely brings a personal element! Around the flowers, I sprinkled some rose gold confetti because it was a birthday, and birthdays call for pretty confetti.

For the queen baker of the family, it's hard to find a worthy dessert. When I saw Milkfloat's pink peppermint pie on social media, I knew it would be perfect - pink and peppermint! She loves peppermint ice cream at Christmas time. It was delicious and it's always fun supporting local!

It was such a fun evening and my beautiful grandma had a wonderful time! For Mother's Day, mini spring flower arrangements would be gorgeous. If you area able to find old photos, those can be the most fun for conversation starters! Make sure to stop by the shop or head to our website to pick out cards, gifts, and party supplies for the special day.
