Rebel Girls Book Reading Event - Amelia Earhart

We kicked off the weekend for some adorable littles with daydream inspiration and motivation! Working with one of my favorite books, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, we put together an Amelia Earhart book reading and paper airplane contest event. Rachel, our event coordinator, invited her friend Chelsea, who is a pilot in the Air Force - perfect reader for our event! Amelia Earhart is from Kansas, so a great rebel girl for our event.

We wanted to help our little readers' daydreams soar, so Rachel brought the sky to life on our backdrop. She made white balloon clusters for clouds, and we found the perfect red airplane balloon. With the Rebel Girls poster, we attached strings to the airplane to make it look like the airplane was pulling the poster. Fishing line is great for airplane balloons, to make them look like they are soaring through the air. For the kids, we made a fun photo prop for them to stand behind, letting everyone know they are a Daydream Believer!

After we posted about the event, Emilee, creator of Smarty Girl, reached out about her fun airplane leggings. She is local to Wichita and makes adorable leggings with "boyish designs for girly girls." If you have a daughter that loves girly colors and themes such as airplanes, science, insects and more, definitely check them out!

Chelsea was amazing with the children! While the kids enjoyed some Miri's Minis donuts, she read them the Amelia Earhart story, shared her personal story, and finished off with a little speech about having courage. After speaking, she passed around her patches and scarves from over the years - kids always love a good show and tell! Even the parents found themselves asking questions and wanting to know more.

After the reading, the children made paper airplanes. There were many different, colorful airplanes soaring around the space. We then rounded everyone up for a distance contest. Each child threw their airplane and the two that flew the furthest won. Rebel Girls sent some fun goodies, and we threw in a few of our own. It was such a fun and easy activity for kids of all ages.

It was such a fun morning! Chelsea was amazing - we loved having a true rebel girl do the reading for this event. Even Shop Baby came to participate! Obviously she wants a copy of her own. If you haven't purchased the two Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls books yet for your littles (girls & boys), they're a must for bedtime stories. They are one page stories with beautiful artwork of famous women that did incredible things. You can purchase them in our online shop or in the shop.

A huge thank you to Chelsea, the Rebel Girls team, and my team for helping put together this event! Also, thank you so much to everyone that joined us. We are hoping to do another one in the future, so watch for it!

Lots of Love,
