Under the Sea Birthday Bash

Party post being shared by one of the new shop girls, Faith!

A couple of weekends ago, we channeled our inner pirates and mermaids during an Under the Sea party we had at the store! For this party, we wanted to have touches of the ocean and Princess Ariel without going full-on Disney. Halstyn, the birthday girl, wanted a magical afternoon and with the help of her mom, we made it happen!

For the tables, we used some of our mermaid plates paired with shiny shell plates and napkins. These shell plates are the perfect size for a cupcake or cookie, while the “Let’s Be Mermaids” plates are great for snacks or a meal! The blues/metallics in the plates coordinated perfectly with the rest of the décor used. On the tables, Rachel (other creative shop girl) cut out lots of shimmery “scales” that were used as table runners, as well as some aqua blue tinsel that was scattered around to look like water.

Instead of putting flowers on the table for a centerpiece, Mary decided to purchase some small fish bowls and fill them each with a different candy! We kept with the  ocean theme and used gummy sharks, Swedish Fish, and sour gummy starfishes, as well as chocolate gold coins scattered throughout the party space.  Not only was it cute, but it also was a tasty way to do centerpieces.

On the snack table, we used some blue tissue paper to look like water, and were sure to incorporate ocean-themed snacks such as Goldfish, Pirate’s Booty popcorn, and Ring Pops as pirate’s treasure that the birthday girl's mom, Katie, picked up. We also pulled some fancy, silver forks and labeled them “dinglehoppers” (just like Ariel’s infamous hairbrush)! We took some extra starfish and scale cutouts and sprinkled them in with the tissue, as well as some leftover chocolate coins.

For the backdrop, we decided to go all-out and incorporate lots of sea creatures into the party. Rachel, cut out fish, starfish, sea horses, and bubbles to use. I then cut different lengths of green streamers to tape on the wall, twisting them to give a seaweed appearance. Once everything was on the wall, it felt like the whole party was under water!

In order to get their Ariel fix, we used a helium mermaid balloon by the cake table, and Katie purchased a stuffed mermaid doll for the birthday girl. The knit doll was not only cute, but definitely cuddle-worthy. The birthday mom also hired a princess Ariel to come play with the girls for a while and sing songs together—she was definitely a hit!

For dessert, Wendi from Sweet Sugarlicious made some of the ocean-themed cutest cookies I have ever seen. There were starfish cookies, seashell cookies, even cookies that looked just like Ariel! Not to forget the boy partygoers, she was sure to decorate some swords, skulls, and pirate hat cookies. Katie's sister also made some adorable ocean cupcakes with bubbles and chocolate seashells. Both set an adorable dessert table!

A party isn’t a party unless there are favors, right? The party mom used some adorable shell bags from the store as favor bags and sent each kid home with some goldfish crackers and goodies! In the boy’s favors, she included pirate tattoos, compass and an eye patch. For the girls, each bag had an Avery & Grey hair clip and a starfish toy. The snap clips are not only loved by all, her tags were perfect for the event! She even made a mermaid hair bow for the birthday girl, mermaid included. Each child went home happy after an afternoon of Ariel and snacks!

Thank you Katie for hosting Halstyn's birthday party at the shop! I hope she had a wonderful time with her friends and they felt the magic of our setup.

Lots of Love,
Faith
